Artist Statement

My current body of work is a series of wall-mounted sculptures that explore cause and effect relationships. I use everyday experiences, both peculiar and ordinary, as a catalyst for my work. I draw from the experiences we all share: loss, isolation and the desire to believe in something larger than one’s self. The idea that a sequence of events can create a domino effect is essential to the work entitled "Continuum". Designed like a scroll, the narrative unfolds as the figures relate, react and respond to one another. Often, this intense interaction is analogous to the way dominos progressively tumble toward an unknown end, with each figure integral to the progression of each other’s consequence. I am interested in the cumulative effect of relationships, how one person, a group of people, or sequence of events can alter the paths we choose. These contingencies, encounters and intersections of our daily lives is like a palimpsest. My work is a reflection on the idea of sequence and layering, and ultimately depicts the incongruent moments that accompany an ordinary life.
